Jenny Crone - San Antonio Artist
Artist statement

My artwork is driven by emotion and inspired by personal experiences, physical places, art, and reflections on God. I love color, which is central to my work. I'm interested in expression through line, composition, and the visceral physicality of mark-making. My hope is to capture emotions visually.

The 2006 series is what I call psychological landscapes about relationships. In 2007- 2009, reflections on spiritual journey, God, and philosophy imbued my work and continue as themes today. I had been introduced to Taoism and was also influenced by Mother Theresa's book Come Be My Light: The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta.

In navigating and processing life, I've thought about and painted forgiveness, love, conflict, giving it to God, the journey, and letting go, among other philosophical themes, which you will find in many of the large-scale works. Often, instead of painting the struggle or a period of darkness, I like to focus on the ideal on the other side of the struggle, a place I'd like to be emotionally or spiritually.

Since 2010, I've painted abstract interpretations of places, feelings and ideas, plus expressionist landscapes. In 2014-15, I've particularly painted places, trying to evoke what it feels like being in a certain city, breathing in a particular view, or the energy a place exudes. One question I think about is "How does an environment affect us?"
